Harvest Safety Week focuses on heat illness and injury prevention

The National Grain and Feed Association is hosting its fourth annual Harvest Safety Week.

Jess McCluer is the vice president of safety and regulatory affairs.

“It’s always a busy time of year for the grain feed and processing industry,” he says. “There is increased traffic at the grain facilities and additional workers demanding hours.”

This year’s event is focusing on heat illness and injury prevention. McCluer says it ties into OSHA’s pending heat injury and illness standard.

“In particular this year, there’s increasing temperatures as a result of heat waves across the country and we thought focusing in particular on this heat-related issue in light of OSHA’s new enforcement program would be a really good way to get the information out,” he says.

Harvest Safety Week events include heat-related policies and best practices and a live legal expert webinar with Aaron Gelb. Click here for more information.

NGFA, founded in 1896, is a national trade association representing and providing services for grain, feed, and related commercial businesses.
