Harvest pushes past average

Several areas of Michigan received their first frost last week as farmers pushed through harvesting.

The USDA says corn condition fell three percent to 63 percent good to excellent with 75 percent mature.  Corn silage harvest reached 86 percent and grain is now 16 percent harvested, both ahead of average.

Soybeans remained at 68 percent good to excellent with 95 percent dropping leaves and 32 percent harvested, up slightly from average.

Dry beans are 77 percent harvested.  Sugarbeets are at 30 percent.

Cooler temperatures are helping to color apples while growers delayed harvesting frozen and wet fruit.
