Harvest picking up steam in Arkansas

Harvest is underway for corn, rice, and soybeans in Arkansas.  Corn harvest is 30% complete, rice harvest is 11% complete, and soybean harvest has just begun. 

Soybeans are 38% coloring and 19% dropping leaves, 64% of the crop is rated good to excellent.  The rice crop is 97 percent headed and 50% mature, with 73% rated good to excellent.  Cotton is rated 74% good to excellent with 41% of the bolls opening.  Peanuts are rated 82% good to excellent. 

The second cutting of hay is 93% complete, and 27% of alfalfa hay 32% is rated good to excellent. Vegetables are rated 67% good to excellent. 

Topsoil moisture was 63% adequate to surplus and subsoil moisture was 59% adequate to surplus.
