Harvest a week or two out for North Iowa farmer

Harvest is still a week or two away for a farmer in north central Iowa.

Stu Swanson says his area has been on the dry side this growing season, but some “just in time” rain events have kept the crop moving along.

“Especially rain in August that helped fuel some of the late yield addition hopefully. Corn has stayed a little greener throughout the season, and especially now it’s kind of slowed down the dry down.”

He tells Brownfield there was less moisture to the south and west.

“Things were a little tougher (there), so I know harvest has begun (with) a lot of variability in yield. But we still see some edge effect on our crops, especially corn, but overall I think we’re looking forward to a good harvest season.”

Swanson farms south of Clarion and serves as a district director for the Iowa Corn Growers Association.
