Hagedorn disappointed payments limits were included in CFAP2

A member of the House Agriculture Committee is disappointed the continuing resolution that passed in the House Tuesday includes payment limits.

Jim Hagedorn is a Republican from Minnesota.

“I keep telling everybody at the Department of Agriculture that we need to increase that (limit) for certain farmers. But by and large, we’re doing everything we can for livestock and every aspect of agriculture to get people from one side of the coronavirus to the other.”

Hagedorn tells Brownfield he’s working with Senate colleagues to push more relief through Congress.

“I’ve offered up legislation to help our livestock farmers, particularly pork producers that had to mitigate losses when they sold into depressed markets. And then (they) also had to euthanize animals and not even use the meat for the food supply.”

He says lawmakers must help independent producers stay in business, otherwise rural communities will suffer.
