Growth Energy pleased with court’s decision to vacate waivers

The CEO of Growth Energy says she’s pleased the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit granted the EPA’s request to vacate three small refinery exemptions granted by the Trump administration in January.

Emily Skor says the organization expects the EPA to deny the requests.

“We anticipate that the EPA is going to do the right thing and will apply the law and when they do that we’re going to see a dramatic reduction in the small refinery exemptions moving forward,” she says.

She tells Brownfield the decision is a step in the right direction after the more than 4 billion gallons of demand destruction caused by the previous administration.

“We have to curtail this, we have to restore integrity to the Renewable Fuel Standard and administer it the way Congress intended, which means blending more biofuels into the U.S. fuel supply every year,” she says. “The EPA has sent some really good, encouraging signals with this new administration that they intend to do that.”

Skor says blending more biofuels will benefit consumers, the rural economy, and the environment.
