Grower takes pride in his father’s and son’s relationship

A farmer who attended Commodity Classic left chores at home to capable, even enthusiastic hands. Eastern South Dakota farmer Chad Schooley doesn’t worry about his farm when he’s away. Schooley – a South Dakota Soybean Association Director – tells Brownfield Ag News his absence gives his 19-year-old son the opportunity to work alongside Schooley’s 81-year-old father.

“My dad, he loves it,” said Schooley. “When I’m gone, he gets to work with his grandson; it’s a great working relationship and they don’t have to listen to me, they can make their own decisions.”

In fact Schooley refers to his farm as the epitome of a family farm. “Up until a year ago, my grandma brought meals to the field, my mom does books, my wife does books. It’s a great operation.”
