Groups hopeful EPA will finalize year-round E15 by June 1

June 1st is quickly approaching, and ethanol industry officials are urging the EPA to approve year-round sales of E15 in time for the summer driving season.

Chris Bliley, vice president of regulatory affairs with Growth Energy, says they are optimistic the EPA will keep its promise to approve year-round sales of E15.

“We’ve seen EPA commit again to that June 1st deadline, but we’re certainly going to hold their feet to the fire to make sure they get it done and get it done right,” he says.

He says this would send a clear signal to the market that there’s a place for higher biofuel blends.

Bob Dinneen, senior strategic advisor with the Renewable Fuels Association, says he also believes the rule will be in place soon.

“EPA has told enough people, testified to it, admitted it will be hard but they’ll get it done, and I think they will,” he says. “They’ve been doing this for a long time and I think they have a good legal justification.”

Anne Steckel, biofuels advisor with the National Farmers Union says they are cautiously optimistic.

“The president has talked and mentioned on several different occasions he supports a move to higher blends of ethanol and it’s up to EPA to make this move and we think that it’s high time that it does,” she says.
