Grassley says Lighthizer sounds optimistic on USMCA
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley says he received an update late last week on the USMCA trade agreement from U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer.
“He expects September to be the big month of working everything out with the House of Representatives, to satisfy the Democrats and even, hopefully, get the labor unions on board,” Grassley says. “Then, when that’s done, I think it moves pretty quickly.”
The CEO of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce CEO, Tom Donohue, said Tuesday that Congress has the votes to pass USMCA “right now”. But AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told Fox News over the weekend that as it stands today, unions will not support the USMCA because it is “unenforceable.”
