Grassley doesn’t mince words as food versus fuel debate ramps back up

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley

U.S. Senator Chuck Grassley is dismissing the food versus fuel debate that seems to be reemerging after the Biden administration announced it will allow summertime sales of E15.

The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield without ethanol farmers wouldn’t grow as much corn, so the impact on food prices would be the same.

“In other words, I’m telling you that the people that make that argument are stupid about the capabilities of agriculture meeting the needs of feeding the people, as well as the ethanol production and feeding animals and all of that stuff.”

He suggests those who make it a food versus fuel issue are anti-agriculture.

“The people that are stupid making those comments are the same ones that probably are saying bad things about American agriculture.”

Grassley made these comments during a call with ag reporters Thursday morning.
