Grain complex “featureless and lackluster”

A commodity and risk management advisor describes the grain complex as “rather featureless and lackluster.”

David Brown with Illinois-based Mondelez International says corn and soybean futures seem to be settling into narrow trading ranges following last week’s elections and USDA’s recent supply and demand report.

“At the moment there just isn’t a whole heck of a lot going on to give us a sense of direction at all.”

He tells Brownfield weather and its effects on growing conditions in South America and elsewhere should have the greatest influence on trade moving forward.

“Our company deals in wheat quite a bit as well, where we’ve got a crop somewhere in the world at all times.  And we’re really looking to weather right now for anything that might push the market.”

Brown says the growing season seems to be off to a good start in Brazil.

Brownfield interviewed David Brown at the Oilseed and Grain Trade Summit in Minneapolis.
