Governor’s Biofuel Standard a top priority for Iowa Corn

The Iowa Corn Growers Association has made Governor Reynolds’ proposed Biofuel Standard a top legislative priority.

Iowa Corn director of market development Grant Menke tells Brownfield setting a 10 percent minimum ethanol standard for gasoline fuel presents a great opportunity for the state’s economy, environment, and farmers.

“And it’s a win for Iowa retailers (who have been) joining us in asking for higher blend infrastructure assistance, and this legislation delivers with $10 million per year in cost-share grants through the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Program.”

He says a recent study by ABF economics shows over the next five years the Governors’ Biofuel Standard would boost Iowa’s GDP by nearly $460 million, support 3,500 new jobs, and increase ethanol demand by 117 million gallons.

“Which is the equivalent of 40 million bushels of corn, which is certainly a big deal to Iowa corn growers.”

Menke says the Biofuel Standard legislation has bipartisan support and he encourages any Iowan interested in seeing more choices at the pump to contact their local legislators.
