Governor Walz hopes to sign E15 Standard into law by end of 2022 Minnesota Legislative Session

Governor Tim Walz is looking forward to renewing efforts to bring an E15 ethanol standard to Minnesota.

Speaking to Brownfield during the MN Ag Expo in Mankato Wednesday, Walz says expanding the use of biofuels is important to him.

“I’ve been on that bandwagon since I was in Congress in the early 2000’s. I think it’s here now, we need to create these at-home markets. We’re really working, and the public understands this as we transition to lower carbon fuels, the biofuels (like) E15 mandates, soy diesel, are all a big piece of this.”

Last year the Legislature failed to pass a bill to raise the ethanol standard from 10 to 15 percent.

“I’ve said all along (that) I’ll sign this thing into law. I’m going to try and do all I can to make it work (and) I thought it made sense to couple the future fuels, the E15, with some of our move towards electrification too because it’s not going to be one or the other. It’s going to be many things, we’re going to be driving cars with gasoline for many years to come.”

The 2022 Minnesota Legislative Session begins January 31st.
