Good week for soybean, sorghum export inspections

The USDA says sorghum and soybean export inspections for the week ending December 12th were more than what’s needed to meet USDA projections for the current marketing year. The 2019/20 marketing year started June 1st for wheat and September 1st for beans, corn, and sorghum.

Wheat came out at 506,921 tons, up 140,907 from the week ending December 5th, but down 178,875 from the week ending December 13th, 2018. The main destinations for the week were Mexico and Japan. Just over halfway through the 2019/20 marketing year, wheat sales inspections 13,575,985 tons, compared to 11,717,859 in 2018/19.

Corn was reported at 686,686 tons, 197,074 higher than the previous week, but 200,574 lower than this time last year. The primary destinations for corn were Mexico and Japan. About a quarter into the marketing year, corn inspections are 7,227,047 tons, compared to 16,004,866 a year ago.

Soybeans were pegged at 1,259,374 tons, 142,151 less than the week before, but 273,109 more than a year ago. China and Spain were the top destinations. So far, this marketing year, soybean inspections are 18,633,317 tons, compared to 15,171,283 last year.

Sorghum totaled 77,564 tons, an increase of 32,415 on the week and 52,558 on the year. The listed destinations were China and Mexico. 2019/20 sorghum inspections are 705,524 tons, compared to 395,014 in 2018/19.
