Good dry bean quality reported in Michigan

The Michigan Bean Commission estimates dry bean harvest in the state is about halfway finished.

Executive Director Joe Cramer tells Brownfield quality so far has been very good.

“We’ve had exceptionally good quality in our small red inventory that’s been harvested so far, like the best I think we’ve ever seen,” he says.

Cramer says the recent stocks on hand report for Michigan was a little larger than anticipated.

“I don’t think a lot of that inventory is still in grower’s hands, I think most of it is sold through the trade but just hasn’t shipped yet, and I think that’s the result in many situations of the logistical challenges that we’ve been hearing about,” he explains.

Cramer says storage space during harvest has been limited for some buyers which has shifted many to contract-only deliveries.
