Global leaders push to combat resistance

The food-animal industry continues work to combat antimicrobial resistance and increase efforts to produce a sustainable food supply.

Earlier this week global food and health leaders came together at the One Health Summit to outline their priorities.

Jeff Simmons, CEO of Elanco says global food and health leaders came together at the One Health Summit to outline their priorities for the future.  “This is very personal to them,” he says.  “Relative to their belief that there will be no one food group that has a bigger impact on the world in the next 35 years than animal protein.”

He says the animal-food industry is looking at three core areas to help the industry combat antimicrobial resistance.  Those are increasing veterinary oversight; improving resistance monitoring and reporting; and accelerating innovation.
