Global Dairy Trade index up fractionally Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index was up fractionally after Tuesday’s trading event to an average of $2,902 dollars per metric ton, or $1.31 a pound.

Prices went up for whole milk powder and buttermilk powder, but other dairy product prices fell.

Whole milk powder was up 2.1% to $2,761 a ton or $1.25 per pound.  Buttermilk powder prices rose 9.4% to $2,344 a ton or $1.06 per pound.

Cheddar cheese prices fell 5.3% to $3,520 a ton or $1.59 per pound.  Butter was down 4.4% to $3,631 a ton or $1.64 per pound.  Anhydrous milk fat fell 2.9% to $3,960 a ton or $1.79 per pound.  Lactose prices fell 4.1% to $1,279 a ton or $.58 per pound.  Skim milk powder prices dropped half a percent to $2,530 a ton or $1.14 per pound.

Tuesday’s trading event had 166 participating bidders trading almost 22 thousand metric tons of dairy products.
