Global Dairy Trade index down Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index fell for a fifth straight trading session Tuesday.

The index was down 2.9% to an average price of $3,768 per metric ton. Prices fell for anhydrous milk fat and whole milk powder and prices increased for Cheddar cheese, skim milk powder and butter.

The biggest gains for this session were for Cheddar cheese, which went up 4.2% to $5,005 dollars per metric ton or $2.27 per pound.

Butter was up two-tenths of a percent to $5,204 per ton or $2.39 per pound.

Skim milk powder was up one-tenth of a percent to $3,524 per ton or $1.59 per pound.

Whole milk powder prices fell 3.5% to $3,417 per ton or $1.54 per pound.

Lactose, buttermilk powder, and sweet whey powder were not offered in this trading session.

Overall, 162 bidders participated and 30,326 metric tons of dairy products were sold Tuesday.
