Global Dairy Trade index down slightly Tuesday

The Global Dairy Trade index was down slightly in Tuesday’s trade.  The index was down one-tenth of a percent, as strong cheddar cheese prices and a slight gain in whole milk powder value offset losses in butter, skim milk powder, and anhydrous milk fat.

Anhydrous milk fat was down 0.9% to $5,337 per metric ton or $2.42 per pound.

Butter was down 0.6% to $3,449 a ton or $1.56 per pound.

Skim milk powder fell 0.3% to $2,842 per ton or $1.28 per pound.

Whole milk powder was up 0.1% to $3,218 a ton or $1.45 per pound.

Cheddar cheese prices were up 4% to $4,871 a ton or $2.20 per pound.

There were 164 participating bidders selling 31,872 metric tons of dairy products in Tuesday’s trading event.
