Get creative during wet harvests
An agronomist in southern Minnesota says farmers in wet areas may need to get creative during harvest.
Dan Koehler with DeKalb Asgrow tells Brownfield damage from soil compaction can take up to three years to fix.
“People are probably already looking at making some changes with tires or tracks on their combines and harvest equipment.”
He says traveling through fields in certain patterns can also be effective in wet conditions.
“And not just driving all over, because then you’re keeping that compaction to a couple areas of the field and not all over.”
Koehler says combining fields with better tile drainage first is another option for farmers dealing with a soggy harvest.
