Funding for conservation projects Great Lakes Basin available in Ohio

The Ohio Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) will provide more than $1 million to farmers and landowners to improve water quality in the Great Lakes Basin.

The money comes through the Ohio NRCS Great Lakes Restoration Initiative.

This year, the initiative will focus on practices that have the highest benefit for reducing water quality degradation from agricultural runoff such as the use of waste storage facilities, nutrient and residue management, no-till farming and tree planting.

Producers in 24 select Ohio counties within the Great Lakes Basin watersheds will be eligible for funding including portions of Allen, Auglaize, Crawford, Defiance, Erie, Fulton, Hancock, Hardin, Henry, Huron, Lucas, Marion, Mercer, Ottawa, Paulding, Putnam, Richland, Sandusky, Seneca, Shelby, Van Wert, Williams, Wood, and Wyandot Counties.

Applications must be submitted by February 17th. Producers can apply at their local USDA Service Center.
