FSA praises conservation benefits of CRP

The USDA says the Conservation Reserve Program is a critical tool to help address climate change.

Matt Russell is Iowa’s Farm Service Agency Executive Director. “It’s a great way to increase conservation on the land with cover, a variety of practices that you can choose from, preserving soil, and expanding opportunities for wildlife.”

He tells Brownfield CRP acres are an investment in the long-term well-being of farmland.

“We’ve built in some new incentives for climate-smart practices,” Russell said. “Three, five, and ten percent incentive payments focused on grasses, trees, and wetland restoration.”

The agency says the 2023 CRP signup period runs from February 27th through April 7th.
