FSA director expects more Dairy Margin Coverage signups

The Wisconsin State Director for FSA says nearly one-third of the Dairy Margin Coverage signups are Wisconsin farmers.

Sandy Chalmers tells Brownfield, “We have about fifteen hundred approved contracts and forty-six hundred across the country.”

Chalmers says it’s a good safety net program that has paid out eleven times since its inception, but she says dairy producers don’t rush to sign up at first. “Activity typically picks up towards the end of this program as producers get a better feel for market forecasts going forward into 2021, and also we’re hearing that people want to wrap up harvest and fieldwork before they turn their attention to this program.”

The sign-up deadline for the Dairy Margin Coverage program is the same as the deadline for CFAP-2, December 11th.
