Fruit trees take brunt of windstorms

Crop conditions are mostly steady in Michigan as soil moistures dwindle.

The USDA says 95 percent of corn is in the dough stage, seven percent is dented, and condition improved four point to 65 percent good to excellent.  Soybeans are 90 percent setting pods, and condition remained 73 percent good to excellent.

As of Sunday, 62 percent of oats, 59 percent of dry beans, and 70 percent of sugarbeets were in good to excellent condition.

Straight-line winds last week damaged fruit and knocked some from trees in the Southwest.  Harvest continues for peaches, blueberries, sweet corn, cucumbers, peppers, eggplants, and tomatoes.
