Fraley says scientific advancements should be celebrated

The former chief technology officer of Monsanto says the incredible science going on to tackle the COVID crisis and to improve agriculture should be celebrated. Dr. Robb Fraley was the final guest speaker on the Danforth Plant Science Center’s Ag Tech Next webinar series, “The same science that’s being used to create the vaccines and the new treatments is the very same science that we’re using to create new crops and new ways of producing better, safer, and more nutritious food.”

Fraley says the advances in biology and digital sciences are the two most important advances in the history of the world. And he says they will continue to improve agriculture’s productivity, yields, safety and food supply, “Agriculture is really one of the last big industries to become digitized around the world.”

Fraley says now is an opportunity to emerge with a stronger, more unified voice on the importance of science in agriculture and food production.

Fraley is a World Food Prize Laureate, who developed the first GMO crops.

He was with Monsanto until just after it was acquired by Bayer in 2018.
