Four major forces expected to support dairy exports

The U.S. Dairy Export Council says the prospects for dairy exports look a lot more promising this year with major trade deals moving forward.

President Tom Vilsack tells Brownfield agreements with Japan, China and the passage of the USMCA will provide new export opportunities for U.S. dairy farmers but also globally, “For the first time since 2015, we are not dealing with the overhang of supply from the EU and their intervention stocks,” he says.

He says once fully implemented, the USMCA could mean up to an additional $300 million in U.S. dairy sales while the deal in Japan should restore lost markets and cause additional powder sales, and infant formula sales into China alone could increase by up to $200 million.
