Four Hoosier FFA members named Stars Over Indiana

Four Indiana FFA members were named Stars Over Indiana during the virtual 91st Indiana State Convention.

Gracie Johnson of the Eastern Hancock FFA Chapter is the Indiana FFA Star in Agribusiness.

Johnson started a dog grooming, GG’s Grooming, in 2016. She started with a few dogs and now grooms more than 150 dogs and has 40 regular clients.

Sydney Hefty of the DeKalb FFA Chapter is this year’s State Star in Agriscience.

One of her recent experiments was to formulate a natural herbicide to kill weeds on her grandparent’s farm.

Hefty says it brings her joy to do research in the field and she’s able to translate that research to people involved in agriculture and those outside the industry as well.

Ethan Buck of the Rossville FFA Chapter is the State Star in Agricultural Placement

He helps out on a row crop operation and confinement swine feeding operation.

Buck keeps inventory of animals and makes sure they have proper vaccinations. He also helps plant and harvest crops and provides input on crop management decisions.

Dillon Sheiss of Columbia City FFA Chapter is the Indiana FFA State Star Farmer.

Sheiss owns 40 heads of club calf cows, 30 show pig sows, and 100 exhibition show chickens. He also grows more than an acre of pumpkins.

The Stars over Indiana award program recognizes members that have excelled in their Supervised Agricultural Experience Programs.
