Former Iowa official tapped for USDA post

Iowa’s former state human services director, Kevin Concannon, has been picked to oversee food stamps, school lunches and other federal nutrition programs. The White House saysPresident Obama intends to nominate the 68-year old Concannon as the USDA’s undersecretary for food and nutrition services.

Concannon held the Iowa position from 2003 to 2007. He previously ran similar agencies in Maine and Oregon.

Nutritionprograms account for more than 60 percent of the USDA’s annual budget.
