Food and ag innovation the focus of AURI conference

The Agricultural Utilization Research Institute’s (AURI) inaugural New Uses Innovation Forum brings together experts and entrepreneurs specializing in the development of value-added opportunities for Minnesota-grown crops and ag processing byproducts.

AURI executive director Shannon Schlecht says he hopes the event will build connectivity and raise awareness.

“Commodity organizations, universities, entrepreneurs, (and) agribusinesses…everybody that’s having these ideas and (working to find out) how we can work together to get more of these ideas into the commercial market.”

He tells Brownfield several Minnesota-based agribusinesses will showcase their products.

“One is Java Cycle, which is working in the co-products area (to) bring soil nutrients into the marketplace.  And we have Suntava, which created the purple corn as a food ingredient.  Land O’Lakes will (also) be a part of the discussion, from their animal nutrition side.”

Schlecht says past Ag Innovator of the Year recipients will also be on hand providing examples of the wide array of innovative agricultural ideas from across the state.
