Fields are getting drier in portions of SD

A farmer in eastern South Dakota says the hot, dry conditions aren’t bad for the corn and soybeans yet.

Scott Stahl from Bridgewater says the crop is not at a critical point in the growth stage, but soil moisture is getting short and a few rains would be appreciated.

“Obviously the roots are working hard to find nutrients and moisture needed to move along in the growth stages. It’s encouraging to see, but there are spotty rains in the area, too. I’m hoping to catch some rain one of these days.”

Stahl tells Brownfield crop nutrition is the focus now.

“I think we will work toward side-dressing and we’re post-spraying herbicide on corn.”

Stahl raises corn, soybeans, oats and cattle in McCook County.
