FFA CEO: members are ready to face agricultural issues

The CEO of the National FFA Organization says members are well positioned to address issues facing the agricultural industry.

Scott Stump says, for example, the organization is providing the next generation of leaders that will help feed a growing population.

“Our members are set up to enter into the variety of pathways all the way from the production side through farming and ranching all the way through the full food value chain of ensuring that America continues to have the safest, most economical, and most abundant food supply in the world.”

Tens of thousands of members are in Indianapolis this week for the 95th National FFA Convention and Expo. Stump says the event can help members figure out what they want to do in the future.

“We are all about learning by doing, so immersive experiences are what we’re all about. Students will be in workshops, they’ll be at the expo being exposed to the latest and greatest in ag technology and the future of where our industry is headed,” he says. “They’ll also meet with many of our corporate partners that are looking for future talent and have conversations about potential careers in this industry.”

Since beginning the role last year, Stump says the organization is making great progress on its strategic plan.

“We’re excited about the fact that as we look forward, yes, we are absolutely going to remain rooted in the traditions that have made FFA great while also equipping our students for the future of agriculture, whether that be in artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, genetics, or chemistry. Those are areas where there are opportunities for students to succeed,” he says. “I would be remiss if I didn’t say farm broadcasting and ag communications. Those play an important part in sharing the message about the industry that we have and so many of our students are going to be on that pathway as well.”

The National FFA Convention and Expo kicks off Wednesday and concludes Saturday.

Stump is encouraging people to tune into the convention. Click here for more information.
