FFA Blue Room highlights how innovation, technology are shaping the future of ag

FFA members were able to explore a 3-D virtual experience focused on how innovation and technology are shaping the future of agriculture in the FFA Blue Room.

Kate Wehby is an educational specialist with the National FFA Organization.

“We’re hoping that students take away how innovation and technology are shaping sustainability,” she says. “We’re also looking for students exposed to careers, maybe careers they didn’t even know existed.”

She tells Brownfield a major benefit of moving to a virtual platform is that even more members can get involved.

“Before at convention, there were lines to get into the FFA Blue Room and sometimes students would wait over an hour just to be able to potentially get in,” she says. “Now that this experience is virtual, everyone who is registered for convention is able to experience it.”

In the FFA Blue Room, students were able to hear from agricultural leaders including Elanco’s Sara Place.

She talked about the strides the industry has made in sustainability.

“Things look a lot better than they were in terms of greenhouse gas emissions per pound of food that gets produced in the United States, but we still have a lot of things we can do better,” she says. “That soil erosion piece is really key.”

The FFA Blue Room is part of the National FFA Organization’s focus on technology and innovation through Blue 365.
