Fertilizer and diesel prices top of mind

A west-central Iowa farmer says he has most of his fall inputs booked, but continues to watch fertilizer prices.

Jeff Frank of Auburn tells Brownfield, “It’s going to be high, there’s no doubt about it. It has come down some, but we have to put it on to get a decent crop. Prices are okay yet. They’ve fallen here lately, but they are kind of coming back now. I think we’ll be alright.”

But, he says fuel is going to be the issue this fall. “I booked a lot of fuel early, but I know I didn’t book enough. Just like a lot of people, I’m sure.”

The national average price of diesel was $5.62 per gallon on Tuesday, according to AAA.
