Feenstra says EPA has “no interest” in making E15 available this summer

A U.S. Representative says it will take an act of Congress to make sure E15 is available at pumps nationwide this summer.

Iowa Republican Randy Feenstra tells Brownfield current regulations would prohibit the sale of fuel blended with 15 percent ethanol from June 1st to September 15th in about 70 percent of the U.S.

“We looked at it several different ways and tried to approach the EPA (but) they have no interest in doing this, so we have to, as Congress, we have to act.”

He says that’s where the Homefront Energy Independence Act comes in.

“It requires the EPA to classify its E15 labeling rule for producers so that we can sell the blends (of) biofuels (like) E15 year-round.”

Feenstra calls the bill “very bipartisan” and says he believes it has enough legs to get through.  He also points out companion legislation is making its way through the Senate.
