February dairy prices mixed

Milk prices were mixed in February.

USDA’s Ag Marketing Service reports the Class III price for February was $16.88 per hundredweight, which is 11-cents more than January and $3.08 higher than last February.  The Class IV price dropped six cents in February to $15.59, but it’s still $2.11 higher than February of 2016.  Class II gained sixteen cents in February to $16.52.

In January, the U.S. milk price was 18.90 per hundredweight, but producers in New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin all had prices higher than the national average.  Texas dairy producers averaged $20.20 per hundredweight in January.

Wisconsin producers averaged $19.30 in January.  Minnesota’s average was $19.10.  Michigan’s price was $18.10 in January.
