FDA releases draft requirements ahead of FSMA

Less than a month before Food & Drug Administration is set to implement its Current Good Manufacturing Practices as part of the Food Safety Modernization Act the agency released its first draft guidance.

The American Feed Industry Association says while the draft is welcome, it is very late.  Richard Sellers, senior vice president of public policy for the organization says the industry needs adequate time to review the document and determine if facilities are in compliance with FDA’s interpretation of the rule.  He says the tardy nature of the draft makes it difficult for companies to meet the deadline.

The compliance date for companies with more than 500 employees to meet the manufacturing practices is September 19th.
