FDA questioned about protecting information

House Republicans have questions for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) about the information it collects from food companies under the Food Safety and Modernization Act.

Fred Upton of Michigan, Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and Health Subcommittee Chair, Joseph Pitts of Pennsylvania have sent a letter to the FDA, asking the agency for specific information about how sensitive company information is being protected.

Upton and Pitts say recent cybersecurity breaches at FDA has increased the importance of FDA’s ability to protect trade secrets and confidential commercial information of regulated companies in the food industry.
