Favorable weather outlook for South America
Reports out of Brazil indicate that their corn and soybean crops are making good progress. And according to Eric Snodgrass, an atmospheric scientist at the University of Illinois, the outlook is for those favorable growing conditions to continue.
“Right now, because we’re not seeing any major heat or drought stresses in the long-range forecasts for South America, that means that more than likely Brazil is going to have another good crop year,” Snodgrass says.
The same is true for Argentina, he says.
“The bigger picture is, I think that South America is going to be pretty much on trend for a good yield this year.”
Snodgrass says the “weak” La Nina weather pattern in the Pacific Ocean will not have much impact on South America’s summer weather.
Snodgrass was a presenter at this week’s ag bankers’ conference in Indianapolis.
