Farmers recognized during Celebration of Ohio Corn and Wheat

Yield contest winners were recognized during the 2021 Celebration of Ohio Corn and Wheat on Wednesday.

Kelly Harsh is president of the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association.

“The celebration is to recognize our yield contest winners in the state and also to recognize our retiring board members who are volunteers and to recognize our sponsors who work with us on issues throughout the year,” she says. “We have great attendance, we’re excited to be outside at an in-person event, and we’re thankful for a beautiful evening.”

The Delaware County farmer says it’s important to say thank you to members.

“Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association has volunteer board members,” she says. “We work on policy issues that are important to farmers here in the state of Ohio—things like ethanol policy, vomitoxin, carbon markets – and it’s important to say thank you to people for their hard work and time.”

Cory Atley is the Ohio Corn Yield Contest overall winner.

“It feels great,” he says. “There are so many great farmers within the state of Ohio so to be able to come out on top is a great privilege. I’m grateful for that – whenever you can win at something it feels pretty good.”

He farms 8,000 acres of corn and soybeans in Cedarville.

For the second year, Unverferth Manufacturing has donated a year lease on a seed tender.

Eric Kahle says Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association members are very important to Unverferth.

“Donating the seed tender for a one year lease just really shows our appreciation and dedication to the growers in Ohio and the partnership we want to continue to build throughout the years,” he says.

J&M Manufacturing donated a year lease of a seed tender for the Wheat Yield Contest.

Brownfield was on the ground for this year’s event in Delaware, Ohio.
