Farmers pricing harvest bushels

Farmers are locking in profits as harvest approaches.

North-central Iowa corn and soybean grower Brent Renner says he’s not making any drastic changes to his marketing plan.

“But I’d be lying if I didn’t say with prices being as strong as they are, and as difficult as it’s been to find good prices the last three or four years, it’s easier for me to trigger a sale sooner rather than later.”

He tells Brownfield margins could be thinner next year because of rising input costs.

“So you need to take that into account, and depending on what the production actually does end up being, that market is still extremely volatile.”

The Klemme farmer says he’ll need to be hedging to manage the wide price swings.
