Farmers made, paid less in July

Programs ICON

Lower prices led to lower farm income in July.

The USDA says that the prices received index for the month was down nearly 4% from June and 10% from July 2015 with lower prices for cattle, corn, broiler chickens, and wheat cancelling out increases for milk, market eggs, and peaches.

The prices paid index was down less than one percent on the month and nearly 4% on the year with lower prices for feeder cattle, feeder pigs, nitrogen, and mixed fertilizer against higher prices for complete feeds and other inputs.

The USDA’s next set of supply and demand estimates, including price projections for most major commodities, is out September 12th.
