Farmers getting elusive jump start on weed control

Many farmers are not only off to a fast start with planting, but with their weed control regimens too.

Southwest Minnesota corn and soybean grower Mark Enninga tells Brownfield he’s applied pre-emerge herbicide to all his corn ground.

“And our plan is to do that with soybeans as well. We believe that preventing weeds from emerging is the best weed prevention. It also preserves some of the technologies that have recently come along for post-application work to be very effective when we use pre’s.”

The Murray County farmer says his fields look clean and he expects that for the duration of the growing season.

Enninga is finished planting corn and hopes to be done with soybeans in a couple of days.
