Farmers for Free Trade meets with Congress, Biden admin

The executive director of Farmers for Free Trade says the Biden administration needs to take more action on trade.

Brian Kuehl says they recently met with members of Congress and the administration on the issue.

“Our message in each of the meetings was pretty straightforward,” he said. “We need new markets for US ag products. We need to open new overseas markets so that we can export more food.”

He tells Brownfield the nation needs to seek more trade deals. “We want to see them in there mixing it up and negotiating new agreements,” Kuehl said. “Congress has a role to play, but the Biden administration has a role to play too.”

Kuehl says the additions of Doug McKalip as Chief Ag Negotiator within the Office of the US Trade Representative and Alexis Taylor as the USDA’s Under Secretary for Trade and Foreign Agricultural Affairs should help jumpstart more trade discussions.
