Farmers attend first day of Becknology Days

Farmers travel to Becknology Days each year to see on-farm research and hear agronomic updates first-hand. The event kicked off today and continues through Saturday in Atlanta, Indiana.

Dean Schmaltz has been farming for 65 years. He attended Becknology Days today with his brother, Leon, and his two nephews, Gerald and Mike.

“I used to have grapes, pumpkins, and zucchini and now I’m strictly down to corn. Age says you have to slow up a little bit,” he says. “It has been an enjoyable day at Becknology Days. I’m thankful for what Beck’s did here – it’s a nice tribute to the farm community.”

Mike says they “mostly looked at the plots and spent some time in the new East Soybean Processing Tower.”

Gerald tells Brownfield they’ve been coming to the annual event for a decade.

“You get a big incentive to come and order your seed on Becknology Days and plus you get to check out all the plots and see what numbers you’re looking at and see what they’re doing in the plots,” he says. “That’s what makes it enjoyable coming back every year and plus they put on a good meal.”

They farm in Baroda, Michigan.
