Farmer starting harvest four weeks late

A Missouri farmer says he’s finally ready to harvest this week – but is keeping his eyes on the weather. Mark Scott farms in east-central Missouri in the St. Charles area.

“Right here, I’m not worried about a frost now. But I’m just more worried about a wet fall because I’m already four weeks behind on harvest.”

Scott told Brownfield late last week he heard one grain dryer in his area, “I know down in the Mississippi and Missouri River bottoms of St. Charles they are running down there. But they had some crops that were planted in April.”

Scott had four farms under water this spring and summer and only two of those got planted. He planted some of his soybeans in July.
