Farmer says there is a lot of variability in crop conditions

A north central Ohio farmer says he is seeing a lot of variability in his fields right now.

Steve Reinhard grows corn, soybeans, and wheat in Crawford County.

“We’re kind of on a dividing line because If you go north of Bucyrus where we are, the planted acres go down considerably and even to the west as well,” he says. “We know we’re going to have some drowned out spots and some other spots that aren’t going to be good, but we’re still hoping for a pretty decent harvest.”

He says he expects his yields to be down from last year. And Reinhard says he’s beginning to make plans for the next growing season.

“As we look toward 2020, I think we see a lot of farmers, no matter what their situation is, looking forward to next year so that’s a good sign that everybody’s planning to go forward and we can move on from 2019,” he says.

Reinhard spoke to Brownfield at the Farm Science Review in London, Ohio.
