Farmer says despite delays, outlook for soybeans is bright

Southern Illinois Farmer Doug Winter says soybean planting is running behind schedule because of recent rains.

“We’re running about 10 days behind normal due to heavier rainfalls—we’re about 4-5 inches above what our average rainfall at this point year to date would be,” he says. “But, I think you’ll see major planting progress in soybeans over the next four-five days.”

He wrapped up corn planting but says he has about 50 percent of his soybeans to be planted.

He says the outlook for soybeans is bright.

“If our growing season will agree with us and mother nature will agree with us over the next couple of months, I think we have the potential for an excellent soybean crop in the US this year,” he says
