Farmer reports that yields are above average but not what he expected

Southern Indiana Farmer Ben Kron says about three-quarters of his crops are harvested and yields aren’t quite what he anticipated.

“Don’t get me wrong, they’re still good and above average but I think we were expecting way above average and we definitely didn’t get that,” he says. “I think some of the late large rains we got hurt us a little more than we thought they did.”

He says despite those late-season rains it has been very dry and there have been some field and combine fires in his area.

“We had a couple of neighbors that had combines burn up and we actually almost caught ours on fire, but we got it out quick,” he says. “That’s something you never like to see but it does happen.”

Kron grows corn and soybeans in Evansville, Indiana.
