Farmer is planting in less-than-ideal conditions ahead of forecasted rain

A western Indiana farmer is back in the field after recent wet conditions stalled planting.

“We’re down to about 400 acres to go and we can knock that out, but the problem is that’s ground that doesn’t have any tile in it and is the wettest of the ground that we have,” he says. “We’re going to be dodging some mud holes and planting in less-than-ideal conditions in places.”

He tells Brownfield he’s trying to wrap up planting because rain is in the forecast for the next week and a half.

“If we get a rain event in the next couple of days like they’re talking about, it will be June before we can get back in the fields,” he says. “So, we’re trying to get the rest of the crop in the ground as quick as we can.”
