Farmer is easing into planting

Southern Indiana farmer Ben Kron says conditions have been right for fieldwork as he eases into the planting season.

“The weather cooperated, and we got a lot of fieldwork done this past fall and winter and even this spring so far,” he says. “We’ve missed a few rains, which I hate to miss rains in April, but it is a good thing when we’re getting started, going early, and so far are feeling pretty good about things.”

He tells Brownfield he typically begins planting around mid-April.

“The past couple of years I feel like we’ve been running a week or two late, but I would say we’re on time this year,” he says.

Kron says he’s hoping for warmer overnight temperatures as the month continues.
